Spell Candles
Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.
—Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
A spell can be written for just about any purpose you can imagine, but I’ve found that most of them can be divided into a few major categories. When you’re lighting your candle, that’s the time to charge it again and focus on your specific situation at that moment. You may want to keep a general need in mind when making a large batch of candles, especially if you know you’ll have various uses for them in the future. At other times, all the candles created in a batch will be used for a single purpose, so I’ll leave the choice up to you.
When using recycled wax, remember to use the chant and visualization in Chapter 2 to clear the wax of previous energy before adding ingredients and charging the wax for a spell candle.
I have also included information about the specific type of energy and element each spell involves. This is to give you as much information as possible about the nature of each particular style of magic. You may notice that many spells combine aspects of more than one element. Spells can and should be tailored for specific needs, and sometimes that means drawing on a variety of correspondences. Keep this in mind when you create your own candle spells (see Chapter 10). Always consider the main type of element and energy that you will draw on, as this will help the focus of your spell. Also be aware that the focus may change, depending on your situation. A spell for success might be to get an interview for a job, or it may involve trying to secure a promotion at an existing job. You may want a quick change or a long-lasting solution. Always consider your specific needs in order to get the best results.
You might be thinking that all candle magic is associated with the fire element. That’s true—in a way, fire applies to all magic since magic transforms and makes change. That’s the nature of the element of fire. But the subtle qualities of each spell have associations with other aspects including color, day, time, herbs, and oils. Don’t let the correspondences confuse you—they are used for a reason and specific purpose.
In addition, don’t be confused by the moon sign if it doesn’t appear to go with the elemental style of the spell—these will not necessarily match. For example, Libra is an air sign, yet the moon in Libra is associated with the qualities of earth and water (love, abundance, and fertility) because Libra is ruled by Venus, goddess of love and beauty. The element associated with an astrological sign represents an influence on a person born in that sign, not necessarily the type of magic done during that sign. This might sound complicated, but remember that as long as you keep your intent in mind, you’ll do just fine.
Always remember to be patient—spells take time to manifest.
